Voodoocuts kicks off the A-Side with Kelja, a raw 70s afro-funk bomb from the Ivory Coast. The American-funk inspired tune features a funky bassline & killer organ vibe, mingled with a dirty, raw saxophone line and James Brown influenced vocals. Voodoocuts‘ rework turns the track into a serious dancefloor banger! In The Tortoise Loop Voodoocuts blends an infectious groove with pounding drum breaks and hypnotic vocals. A hot afro-latin joint not to be missed!
On the flip SoulBrigada takes things to a disco tip. Hustleman is a stunning afrofunk & disco gem from West Africa. The second track Madera is an afro-disco gem with a compelling Cape Verdean groove. SoulBrigada rearranged the tracks, added drums, samples and effects building a bridge between past and present – without ever losing its original organic vibe. The debut release, a 12″ featuring four DJ-friendly edits from Voodoocuts and SoulBrigada sets the tone and has a fine titular pun to boot in Afreaka! Voodoocuts takes the A-side duties, pairing up the raw ’70s Ivory Coast funk of „Kelja“ with the steamy Latin styles of „Tortoise Loops“. Those wanting something a bit more disco in sound will gravitate towards the „Hustleman“ edit from SoulBrigada which originates from West Africa and has a killer horn line!!! „Madera“ sees SoulBrigada look to Cape Verde for source material and features some subtle additions. – junorecords
Die umtriebigen Vinylisten-DJ-Musikliebhaber- und-Edit-Macher Alex und Fabio von SoulBrigada erfreuen das Netz seit Jahren mit detailverliebten und top-selektierten Mixes und Edits zwischen Reggae, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Brazil, Latin oder Afro-Sounds – was ihnen auch schon eine Remixarbeit für Gilles Petersons‘ Havanna Cubana-Projekt eingebracht hat. Nun war die logische Konsequenz, dass sie ein eigenes Label gründen und verschiedene Edit&Remix&Rework-Perlen veröffentlichen.
