Porfi Jiménez

Porfirio „Porfi“ Jiménez (1928–2010) was a renowned composer, arranger and trumpeter who was born in the Dominican Republic. After fleeing the Trujillo dictatorship, he became a key figure in the Venezuelan music scene.
He performed with renowned orchestras, established his own band in 1963, and made significant contributions to salsa, merengue, and jazz. In 2007, he was honoured by the UN as an outstanding Latin American musician.
