Kill Emil – Matata | Humanidad (MSR007)
The newest addition to the Matasuna Records label roster is Greek producer and beatmaker Kill Emil. For the upcoming 7inch vinyl single he delivers two great Afro-Tropical joints.
Kill Emil has been on the road for almost a decade and has a remarkable output of singles & LPs on various labels. Rooted in Hip Hop he produces tracks with different influences from all over the world. Sophisticated beats, positive grooves and warm loops characterize his sound and make him a sought-after producer and live performer. So it’s not surprising that he regularly tours all over Europe.
The opening track Matata is a midtempo groover with rhythmic guitar melodies, catchy brass lines and mystical vocal parts. Kill Emil skilfully embeding them into his beat framework by adding various effects and echoes to create a new and hypnotic sound. A delicious Afrolatin joint that gets you moving!
On the flipside another tropical gem delivering some Latin madness. With Humanidad Kill Emil shows his beatmaker skills by chopping the samples, reassembling them and adding some heavy breaks and percussions to boil a hot and stirring mixture. NYC Salsa at its best!
Reviews:
One of the most talented beat makers and producers we have come across in a while, Kill Emil, returns on Matasuna Records with two more tropical vibed sides to get the masses moving in the right direction. Equally impressive on the dance floor or off, “Matata” grooves from the very first drop to the last note played. Plenty of horns, percussion, and rhythmic guitar parts hypnotize the listener, taking the listener to one of many tropical locations all over the world (Take your pick please). Kill Emil has that panache for making records with a hip hop aesthetic that capture the essence of many genres, and this one has a full on latin vibe through and through. Like the last record, “O Jogo” from 2017, this side knocks..and knocks. On the flip, “Humanidad”, he travels deep into some afro latin vibes, deconstructing samples and beats transforming it into one hell of a track. Traveling back to the hey day of NYC latin music, the pot is definitely boiling with salsa vibes as Kill Emil puts a steaming hot plate of beats right before you to fill up your appetite. Dance floor friendly, it’s another winner for us with this new forty five. Listen to both tracks below from the Matasuna Records. fleamarketfunk.com
The Matasuna label has been going hard on an Afro-Latin tip lately, and here they follow up their re-release of super-rare Sangre Joven cut Zamba Zamba (along with a Voodoocuts remix) with this new 45 from Greek producer Kill Emil. The A-side, Matata, might take its name from the Swahili word for problems but our man seems to have no difficulty knocking out a pumping mid-tempo affair that wears its Afro roots proudly and not least through its vocal samples. It’s arguably flip Humanidad that’s the strongest cut though with a powerful lurching sal-soul rhythm over which strutting piano, louche horns and Latin vox weave themselves. Oh the humanidad! monkeyboxing.com
Matsuna Records‘ latest batch of Afro-Tropical reworks come courtesy of Kill Emil, a sometime hip-hop producer from Athens who has been delivering killer cuts for the best part of a decade. First up is „Matata“, a mid-tempo Afro-Latin stepper in which our Greek hero wraps breezy, delay-laden vocal snippets, ear-catching horn lines and rhythmical guitar riffs around his own punchy, off-kilter MPC beats. Over on side B, Kill Emil gets even more tropical, brilliantly fusing chopped and looped sections of a vintage NYC salsa jam with toe-tapping, head-nodding hip-hop style beats fresh from his trusted beat-box. Like all good salsa jams, it comes complete with some seriously heavy brass. juno.co.uk
