One of those rare, lesser-known Latin funk gems is undoubtedly Miami by Dominican-Venezuelan musician Porfi Jiménez, originally released in 1971. After several years of work, it’s finally getting an official reissue. The release also includes a great edit by Philadelphia-based DJ and producer Retro Roland Riso. This heavy Latin funk joint from Venezuela is ready to bring the heat just in time for summer!
It’s always great to discover „new“ old songs with Matasuna. I thought I know a lot of Porfi’s work, but „Miami“ was absolutely new to me. Both versions are fantastic.
Fantastic release. Especially for all of us who can’t afford original release. Thank you!
A great release, love both versions. – Full support! –
Subject: Fresh Vibes, Latin Funk & Vinyl Love – Let’s Connect!
Hi Matasuna Team,
Just wanted to say—you nailed it with this reissue of Porfi Jiménez’s “Miami”. That Latin funk groove is pure fire! We’ve already added it to rotation on our “Fresh Vibes at Five” weekday show on TheBocX.com—where we showcase rare grooves, fresh soul, chill jazz, and global rhythm discoveries.
We also host a growing monthly vinyl series called Spin & Spice, combining real-deal Thai food with deep cuts on wax—think flower power, funk, and far-out discoveries. Porfi would be right at home in our crates and on our turntables.
We’d love to be added to your vinyl promo/distribution list so we can help break more gems like this to our audience across radio and live DJ sessions. We’re huge supporters of reissues, edits, and quality pressings that keep timeless music alive and spinning.
Let’s keep the good vibes circulating—please let us know how we can stay connected and support your upcoming releases.
Warm grooves,
Phil Dorsey
